Meet The Hosts: Marc of Grateful Dead and Phriends

1. How long have you been with WNRN and how did you get started?

I was invited to help with the show twenty years ago by the host at the time, Pat McClure.

2. What should WNRN listeners know about your show, and/or your music tastes?

Our show (Grateful Dead and Phriends) is the BEST SHOW EVER! We play large LIVE tunes from the Dead, JGB, ABB, Phish, Panic, BMFS, Goose, ARU etc…. If you like timeless music you will love our show. Also there is a smaller show going on within the show. We play bed music during breaks. Sometimes the bed music has a theme, and sometimes it’s honoring a fallen rocker.

3. What’s your favorite, recent music discovery?

Well BMFS and Goose have both been huge up and comers in the jam band scene.

4. What might be an unexpected artist on your personal playlist?

ABBA. I had no idea how awesome ABBA was.

5. A couple of firsts: What was the first concert you ever attended? What was the first album you ever bought?

The first major concert I was allowed to go to was Genesis at the Mothership on the invisible touch tour. First album was KISS rock n roll. (I was not allowed to go see KISS at the Roanoke Civic Center)

6. What would be your 1-3 Top ‘Desert Island’ albums? The ones you would want with you if stranded on a desert island. Why?

ABB live at Fillmore east. This live album is perfection.
Dicks picks #18 is one of my favorite Grateful Dead live releases. Can listen to it over and over again.
There are soooooo many more!!

7. What are some of your favorite hobbies/things to do outside of music and radio?

I like to travel. I travel for concerts, national parks, and food. I love Yellowstone, Bar Harbor, Aspen, Tahoe, etc…..

I’ve started collecting vinyl again and have a very good collection.

I love animals, especially dogs. I’ve swam with dolphins, held a nurse shark, AND I’ve held a sloth.

Extra: What shows are you looking forward to in 2025 / What were some of your favorite shows in 2024?
