Tiny In-Studio Session Winner
In coordination with NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest, artists from across the Commonwealth also submitted their video entries to WNRN’s Tiny In-Studio Session Contest, and WNRN staff reviewed them all.
Our 2026 Tiny In-Studio Session winner is 4la7la! 4la7la (pronounced ‘for Layla’) is a singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist who creates emotionally immersive soundscapes rooted in vulnerability, transformation, and cinematic intimacy. Blending lo-fi textures, piano-led melodies, and ambient production, her work reflects a world in flux; drifting in dreamlike narratives.

Acelia
Acelia grew up in Charlottesville and now lives in Richmond, pursuing a music career while finishing up school at VCU. Acelia makes alternative folk music, drawing from her experiences and writing music that people can relate to and feel less alone.

Deathcat
Deathcat is a femme alt rock band based in Richmond. Voted Richmond’s Best Indie Rock Band of 2025 by RVA Magazine, they have gained a large local following over the past two years. Deathcat is Caroline Gunn (vocals,guitar,bass), Gaby Davenport (vocals, guitar, bass), and Alex Woloszyn (drums).
Brookhouse
Brookhouse is a singer, songwriter, guitarist and cultural chameleon based in Richmond. With a Cuban-American mother and lifelong Virginian father, he grew up straddling cultural divides. Brookhouse’s sound reflects this upbringing, spanning bilingual rock, jazz, Latin music, Americana, and funk, to name a few. And the emotional range that it expresses is just as eclectic as the genres: Danceable protest songs, contemplative confessions, and carefree celebrations all have their moments. Despite this variety, there is a common thread: The message that no matter where you’re from, you contain multitudes. And accepting that in yourself will set you free.
Caroline Vain
Known as a trusted accompanist in Richmond bands such as Deau Eyes, The Hotpants, Erin Lunsford, and Villages, Caroline Vain debuted her first solo EP in February 2025. Caroline’s songwriting is thought provoking, emotional and honest. Her versatility as an instrumentalist shows through in her inspired arrangements both in the studio and live on stage.
