Sense of Place, Boston: Berklee Music Inclusion Ensemble on World Cafe

At Berklee College of Music, the Music Inclusion Ensemble is empowering young musicians with disabilities. For World Cafe’s Sense of Place Boston series, hear a conversation with co-founder Adrian Anantawan, in which he talks about how the ensemble unites disabled and non-disabled musicians. Plus, the world-class violinist, born without a right hand, shares how his own experience has shaped his philosophy as a musician and an activist.

Hear Together: Forward Foundation Gala

Forward Foundation VA is a nonprofit serving the Greater Richmond area and is dedicated to assisting single working parents and their children who are experiencing financial hardship due to a life change.

They serve a niche demographic who typically cannot receive help from the state due to earning too high of an income. Through their 12-18 month program, they aim to empower single-parent families to move forward beyond their current circumstances and thrive.

They’re hosting their 6th Annual Celebratory Gala on Saturday, February 22nd at the Cultural Center of India from 6pm – 11pm. The night will feature a plated dinner by Chef Matt Kirwan, casino games, live & silent auctions, dancing, entertainment, raffles, and more!

Sense of Place, Boston: Josh Kantor Fenway Park and WUMB ‘Top 5’ on World Cafe

The Boston Red Sox may be the main attraction at Fenway Park, the oldest MLB stadium in the country, but there’s another performance going on during game day. In another dispatch from World Cafe’s Sense of Place Boston series, you’ll meet Josh Kantor, the organist at Fenway Park since 2003. Kantor explains how he got the job, how he fields song requests, and why it helps to know the ins and outs of baseball. PLUS, what songs come to mind when you think about Boston? WUMB’s Albert O, host of Afternoons with Albert O., shares the essentials.

Hear Together: Jefferson Center Beat Camp

The Harry and Levon Webb Education Center at Jefferson Center in downtown Roanoke is presenting Beat Camp from Tuesday, February 18th through Friday, February 21st. During this 4-day camp, Middle-High School aged students will learn about beats, bars, and production. Students will have access to Music Lab equipment and will have the ability to learn side by side with Roanoke Producers 808-Ray and Poe Mack.
