Ani DiFranco on World Cafe

Right now, it is good to be Ani DiFranco. She just finished a run on the Tony award winning musical “Hadestown”, is the subject of a new documentary, “1-800-On-Her-Own” and just released her 22nd album. DiFranco joins World Cafe to talk about working with a producer for the first time in her career, and why performing on Broadway is nothing like playing a concert.

Cosmo Sheldrake on World Cafe

In some ways, the strange, beautiful music of Cosmo Sheldrake sounds like nothing else. But it also sounds like everything. The English musician and composer is deeply inspired by the nature, blending field recordings and samples of wildlife noises with his own musical improvisation to create music that feels profoundly connected to the world around us. He performs songs from his new album, Eye to Ear, on the next World Cafe.

Encore: War on World Cafe

War is hard to define. The band from Long Beach, California is equal parts funk, soul, Latin rock, jazz and much more. That unique sound helped them reach the top of the charts 50 years ago with their blockbuster album The World Is a Ghetto. On the next World Cafe, founding member Lonnie Jordan and producer Jerry Goldstein join us to talk about making that iconic album, plus War performs some of their greatest hits live.

DEHD Mini Concert on World Cafe

The Chicago trio Dehd have a new album called Poetry. Most of the writing came courtesy of a road trip the band took, splitting time between their home base in Chicago, bassist and co-vocalist Emily Kempf’s home in Taos, and even a visit to the Pacific Northwest. Dehd play songs from Poetry, in a mini-concert, on the next World Cafe.
