Meet The Staff: Ann Voss

1. How long have you been with WNRN and how did you get started?

4 1/2 years. With degrees in Music and Business, I have always worked at cultural arts nonprofits in administration and finance, and I was drawn to WNRN because of the community building focus that is rooted in music.

2. What is your role at WNRN and how would you explain what you do?

Gosh – seems like a lot of little things, but mostly it is all the business portion of WNRN relating to money and staff.

3. What’s your favorite recent music discovery?

Maybe not so recent, but Japanese Breakfast.

4. What might be an unexpected artist on your personal playlist? I don’t think anyone who knows me would be surprised by my playlist – it typically is whatever choral music I am learning at the time and Violent Femmes “Blister in the Sun”!

5. A couple of firsts: What was the first concert you ever attended?

David Cassidy – my brave mother put a bunch of little girls in her station wagon and took us to the Richmond Coliseum to see him.

What was the first album you ever bought? I don’t remember – I used to buy 45’s since I was more interested in individual songs rather than albums in my early years. I mostly listened to the radio and played movie soundtrack albums.

6. What would be your 1-3 Top ‘Desert Island’ albums? Why?

The ones you would want with you if stranded on a desert island. JT, Tapestry, Bernstein conducting Beethoven’s 9th symphony. Before apps and streaming, I listened to JT and Tapestry CDs on every road trip (because I would sing along). And Beethoven’s 9th – all about brotherhood and a kiss for the whole world.

7. What are some of your favorite hobbies/things to do outside of music and radio?

Traveling with friends, hiking, singing, and when those three converge, it’s chef’s kiss.

Extra: What shows are you looking forward to in 2025? Laufey and Cynthia Erivo
