After moving from Milwaukee to Atlanta, Kevn Kinney started playing music with Frank French at his recording studio at night while also working at French’s futon store. As additional musicians joined in, the first version of Drivin’ N Cryin’ was formed playing evening gigs while Kinney continued his day job in a sewage plant.
The late 80’s saw the band release their first albums which found a home on college radio. The band continued to gain a bigger audience with the support of one very important fan. Peter Buck of REM invited the band to be the opening act on their tour, and this pushed Drivin’ N Cryin’s label to recommit to their records.
Over the years Drivin’ N Cryin’ has seen numerous lineup changes. Aaron Lee Tasjan spent some time as lead guitarist in the band, and for a few years the band was on break, returning to recording and touring in 2001.
After a period of more country and folk influenced records, the band returned to rock form on their latest album. Produced by Aaron Lee Tasjan, 2019’s Live the Love Beautiful was the band’s first full length album in a decade. Last year Kevn Kinney released a solo record, his first since 2009.
