A letter from WNRN’s general manager, Mark Keefe:
As a public radio station, WNRN relies on our members for a substantial portion of the
funds we need to broadcast across the Commonwealth and beyond. We uphold our
responsibility to use your gifts wisely and keep a close eye on our annual budget.
This year, we are being met with a new challenge.
Our $200,000 Community Service Grant through the Corporation for Public
Broadcasting (CPB) is at risk of being eliminated. These funds are currently under
threat through a process called rescission. The President has requested that Congress
“claw back” already allocated funds and cancel any future funding through the CPB.
What does this mean for WNRN?
The CPB Community Service grant provides significant funding for Hear Together, our
award-winning on-air public service feature that has spotlighted more than 1,000
nonprofits in our listening area over the past decade.
AND
The CPB negotiates our current rights agreements, which allow us to legally broadcast
music and ensure that artists receive compensation.
Should this process succeed, we would need to seek arrangements with rights holders
to continue to broadcast music starting on January 1, 2026.
What can you do to support WNRN right now?
1. Find out more information here.
2. Contact your congressional representatives – tell them that you support public
media and urge them to oppose any attempt to eliminate our funding.
3. Spread the word – share your support for WNRN with your friends, family, and
community, and encourage them to get involved.
We have been able to rely on you for your support for nearly 30 years and appreciate
your generosity every time we ask for a contribution during a fund drive. Now, we need
your help and your voice to protect Independent Music Radio WNRN and ensure that
The Music Never Stops!
With gratitude,
Mark Keefe
