Much of the Roanoke Valley population is made up of a variety of international cultures, so Local Colors is aiming to create opportunities that celebrate and represent the rich diversity of the region.
Over 30 countries are represented at their annual Local Colors Festival, which features an Opening Ceremony, performances, and vendors. They also have other events throughout the year, including their celebrations of Lunar New Year, Nowruz, Hispanic Heritage Month, and African Cultures.
Born out of a small downtown festival in 1991, they have worked steadily over the years to include more countries, represent more cultures, and make everyone in the Roanoke Valley feel seen, valued, and celebrated.
