“‘Riptides’ is about the challenge of dealing with personal struggles as the world around us experiences tragedy and loss on an unfathomable scale,” explains frontman Ben Gibbard. “And how when these two elements intertwine themselves in our psyches, it feels utterly paralyzing.”
