1. How long have you been with WNRN and how did you get started?
I’ve been with WNRN since 2009. A few years after I moved to Charlottesville, I decided I wanted to get involved, and signed up to be a volunteer. At first, I prepared and read the news Friday mornings, and after a few months, started hosting Saturday mornings.
2. What should WNRN listeners know about your show, and/or your music tastes?
I first got into music in the early 1980’s when listening to the old WHFS in DC, and apparently never stopped loving music from that era. In college, I hosted a show at KWUR in St. Louis, and got the chance to explore music from the 70’s, especially power pop and pub rock.
On Les Temps, I sometimes try to recreate what it was like listening to a good radio station in the early 1980’s, but I also like to mix in tunes that were never on the radio, but were influential, or just great music.
3. What’s your favorite, recent music discovery?
I’ve really been enjoying Brigitte Calls Me Baby.
4. What might be an unexpected artist on your personal playlist?
I am a sucker for 1960’s and ’70’s Bubblegum—always up for some Cowsills!
5. A couple of firsts: What was the first concert you ever attended? What was the first album you ever bought?
First concert: Depeche Mode/Book of Love 3/14/84. First album(s) bought (cassettes of course!) David Bowie/Let’s Dance; Chris de Burgh/The Getaway and Naked Eyes/Burning Bridges (I think all on the same trip to the record store at the mall!)
6. What would be your 1-3 Top ‘Desert Island’ albums? The ones you would want with you if stranded on a desert island. Why?
Lloyd Cole/Love Story: every song is great, and Lloyd is just clever enough with his song writing
The Owls/Daughters and Suns: the music is catchy and the lyrics mysterious
7. What are some of your favorite hobbies/things to do outside of music and radio?
Right now, just hanging with my 18-month old daughter, Zelda and doing whatever makes her happy!
