Meet The Staff: Virginia Kenney

1. How long have you been with WNRN and how did you get started?

I’ve been at WNRN for 8.5 years and came from working in both broadcast and live music.

2. What is your role at WNRN and how would you explain what you do?

I am the Director of Underwriting Accounts and manage client communications, station compliance, and traffic and copy for WNRN’s underwriting announcements.

3. What’s your favorite recent music discovery?

Not a recent discovery by any means, but I’ve been listening to a lot of Nan Macmillan lately.

4. What might be an unexpected artist on your personal playlist?

I listen to a wide range of music, so I’m not sure what would be unexpected. I listen to a lot of Trevor Moore’s music – maybe that.

5. A couple of firsts: What was the first concert you ever attended? What was the first album you ever bought?

The first concert I remember is The Wailers; the first one I chose was Alicia Keys. The first album I ever purchased was Hanson’s Middle of Nowhere on cassette.

6. What would be your 1-3 Top ‘Desert Island’ albums? The ones you would want with you if stranded on a desert island. Why?

Aesop Rock – Skelethon, Warren Zevon – Excitable Boy, and Bon Iver – For Emma, Forever Ago. All three of these were highly formative for me, and I think each is a perfect album. There isn’t a single track I would change or omit.

7. What are some of your favorite hobbies/things to do outside of music and radio? Read, travel, and hang out with friends and my fiancé and our pets.

Extra: What shows are you looking forward to in 2025 / What were some of your favorite shows in 2024? I’m excited about Future Islands, The Head and the Heart and Weird Al in 2025. Band of Horses, Vampire Weekend, King Gizzard, The Descendents, and Murder by Death with J Roddy were all highlights of 2024 (I clearly had trouble narrowing down the list).
