Meet The Staff: Micalyn Miller

1. How long have you been with WNRN and how did you get started?

Just over 2 years. I actually was donating during a fund drive and just happened to check to see that WNRN was hiring.

2. What is your role at WNRN and how would you explain what you do?

I’m WNRN’s Digital Content Specialist, so I handle photos and videos for our social media and web content. You’ll probably see me sneaking around with a camera in hand at In-Studio Sessions.

3. What’s your favorite recent music discovery?

I’ve really been loving Royel Otis. I got to see them last year at Iron Blossom Music Festival and they were an absolute blast!

4. What might be an unexpected artist on your personal playlist?

I don’t think too many things would surprise people, but my running playlist includes a lot of Ludacris, Eminem, Doechii, and Missy Elliott.

5. A couple of firsts: What was the first concert you ever attended? What was the first album you ever bought?

The first concert I ever attended was Alan Jackson and Lee Ann Womack in Charleston, West Virginia. I think the first album I ever bought was NSYNC’s No Strings Attached, which—as a millennial—I vividly remember carrying in my portable CD player while I rollerbladed around town.

6. What would be your 1-3 Top ‘Desert Island’ albums? The ones you would want with you if stranded on a desert island. Why?

This is so difficult. Ok, I need one for each vibe. I’m going to say The Chicks Fly, The Strokes Is This It, and Two Door Cinema Club Tourist History. I feel like I come back to each of these all the time and never really get tired of them.

7. What are some of your favorite hobbies/things to do outside of music and radio?

Outside of music and radio, I love backpacking, kayaking, and baking. I’ve almost perfected my pepperoni rolls. I also watch way too much tv and I’ve recruited all of my friends to become as obsessed with Severance as I am.

Extra: What shows are you looking forward to in 2025 / What were some of your favorite shows in 2024?

I’ll be honest, I’m very bad at planning what shows I’ll see during the year, but I know I’ll catch some great In-Studio Sessions through work.

Last year, highlights were seeing Tyler Childers, Oh He Dead, Sturgill Simpson, Caamp, Royel Otis, and Joy Oladokun.
