Meet The Staff: Kirsten Rhodes

1. How long have you been with WNRN and how did you get started?

I have been with WNRN for almost 3 years. I volunteered to answer the phones during fund drives prior to joining the office staff. I have always loved the station. When my current position opened up, I jumped at the chance to work full time at WNRN!

2. What is your role at WNRN and how would you explain what you do?

My title is Events & Promotions Manager. I secure many of the ticket promotions that we offer in the weekly Member list. I also secure sponsorship opportunities for the station with various shows and festivals in the Commonwealth. I coordinate the logistics for our larger events such as Red Wing and Dead Airs. I manage the Street Team program and other volunteer opportunities. I also manage the Internship program.

3. What’s your favorite recent music discovery?

“Ancient Light” by I’m With Her

4. What might be an unexpected artist on your personal playlist?

Nancy Sinatra

5. A couple of firsts: What was the first concert you ever attended? What was the first album you ever bought?

My first concert was Stevie Ray Vaughn & Double Trouble.
My first vinyl album that I asked my Mom to buy for me was Physical by Olivia Newton John. I thought she was the coolest chick after seeing the movie Grease.

6. What would be your 1-3 Top ‘Desert Island’ albums? The ones you would want with you if stranded on a desert island. Why?

I enjoy singles more than full albums by one artist. My playlists are very diverse so I would be happy with a few playlists from different times in my life to enjoy. I could never choose one artist over another!

7. What are some of your favorite hobbies/things to do outside of music and radio?

I volunteer with my church. I love to be around water for recreation. I love spending time with my friends and family, just hanging out and enjoying each other’s company.

Extra: What shows are you looking forward to in 2025 / What were some of your favorite shows in 2024?

In 2024 I saw Alanis Morrisette and Joan Jett on a double bill. That was a fantastic show!
In 2025 I’ll attend any Widespread Panic or Tedeschi Trucks Band shows.
