Hear Together: Virginia Public Access Project Election Coverage

The Virginia Public Access Project, also known as VPAP is a nonprofit organization dedicated to remaining fiercely non-partisan. Their mission is to simplify complex political information about Virginia’s local politics and government so our fellow citizens can better understand and make informed decisions that align with their values.

With the November election approaching, they invite you to visit vpap.org to learn more about the candidates running for U.S. House and Senate, including their campaign finances and the districts they aim to represent. You can also enter your address to see who’s on your ballot, where to vote, and more.

On election night, tune in for live, up-to-the-minute results, and return afterward for VPAP’s post-election analysis featuring informative visuals and results for your ballot.

Hear Together: DisruptHR/Charlottesville Computers4Kids

Since 2018, DisruptHR/Charlottesville’s annual event has raised funds for Computers4Kids to strengthen their STEM-based mentoring program and prepare the Charlottesville area youth for brighter futures.

They invite you to join them Tuesday, October 1st from 5-8 p.m. at Live Arts on Charlottesville’s Downtown Mall.

All event proceeds go to Computers4Kids.

Market Central brings local farms and food to Charlottesville every Saturday at the Farmers Market at Ix Art Park. They support food entrepreneurs through business development classes and pursue food access programs to ensure local food is available to all community members. Hear Together: Literacy Volunteers of Campbell County Public Library

The Literacy Volunteers of Campbell County Public Library is a nonprofit that provides confidential, volunteer-driven, personalized literacy instruction for adults in and around Campbell County. 

They welcome volunteer tutors and will be hosting a new tutor training on Sunday, September 18th at the Timbrook Library.

The Central and Western Virginia chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association invites you to walk with them on Saturday, September 14th at Murphy Deming College of Health Sciences in Fishersville. 

With new treatment breakthroughs, there’s never been a more important time to join Walk to End Alzheimer’s®—the world’s largest event to fight the disease. 

Proceeds go towards local care and support programs and research.

The Free Clinic of Central Virginia is a nonprofit in Lynchburg that aims to provide high-quality, compassionate, and comprehensive healthcare for every member of our community. 

They’re hosting a basketball tournament at the University of Lynchburg called Hoops for Health on Saturday, September 21 and Sunday, September 22nd.

During this two-day event, local companies play each other and enjoy a bracket-style tournament. 

They welcome you to come out and cheer on their teams while supporting your Free Clinic of Central Virginia.

Little Hands VA is a Richmond based nonprofit serving families and children in Central Virginia as the region’s diaper bank. In Central Virginia, 1 in 2 families experience diaper need, so this September 23-October 23, they are hosting their Big Diaper Drive in efforts to help wipe out diaper need and ensure that Virginia’s littlest ones are clean, happy and healthy.

Little Hands welcomes you to host a drive at school, work, or within your community to help reach their goal of collecting 200,000 diapers to support our region’s children and their families. More information can be found at bigdiaperdrive.org.

Hear Together: The Friends of Bedford Hospice House Jimmie Wilson Roadshow

Established in 2011, The Friends of Bedford Hospice House partnered with Centra Health in 2016 and has served nearly 200 families with care, compassion and comfort.On Saturday, September 14th, they’re hosting The Jimmie Wilson Roadshow, an evening of Stories & Songs of Willie Nelson at the Bower Center for the Arts.  They’ll have a dessert social at 6 pm with the concert starting at 7 pm.Touring nationwide for over 17 years, The Jimmie Wilson Roadshow offers an intimate interpretation of Willie’s biggest hits, along with anecdotes about the legend and his music.Tickets can be purchased online or at Arthur’s Jewelry in Bedford.

Hear Together: SPARC Fall Classes

SPARC, the School of Performing Arts in the Richmond Community is a youth-serving nonprofit with a mission to profoundly influence young people’s lives through exceptional performing arts education.

They invite you to join them beginning September 16th for their after-school and weekend performing arts and technical theatre classes. These classes are open to young artists ages 4 to 18 with all levels of experience in theatre! SPARC’s classes are offered at our campus in the Scott’s Addition neighborhood of Richmond and focus on topics like acting, improv, musical theatre, dance, and more.
