Hear Together: Jefferson-Madison Regional Library Same Page Community Read

This month, the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library welcomes all Central Virginians to read and discuss Chesapeake Requiem by Earl Swift, the 2025 Same Page Community Read selection.

This annual community-wide reading initiative gives book groups, classrooms, and individuals the opportunity to explore the themes of a single book by an author appearing at the Virginia Festival of the Book taking place in Charlottesville. Paperback copies of Chesapeake Requiem are available at JMRL branches and the Bookmobile while supplies last.

Hear Together: Woven Roots Collective “Seed Stories”

Woven Roots Collective is a nonprofit organization in Charlottesville established to nurture social and ecological resilience. Through collaborative projects and educational events, they aim to create opportunities for connection, healing, and inspiration in Central Virginia.

Woven Roots is hosting its second annual seed-swapping event, “Seed Stories”, at the Jefferson Madison Regional Library Central branch on Sunday, March 30th from 2pm-4pm in the Swanson Room. 

They welcome you to join them in collaborative discussion, knowledge and seed sharing. You can bring your surplus seeds to share and pick up new seeds to diversify your gardens.

Hear Together: Little Hands Virginia

Little Hands Virginia is a Richmond-based nonprofit that ensures young children have the essentials needed from birth to improve outcomes for life. 1 in 2 families in our community experiences diaper need, and that’s where Little Hands Virginia comes in, reaching over 10,000 children last year alone.

If you are a parent, your new and gently-used baby items can go to a family who needs them. They accept donations of diapers, clothes, baby gear, toys, books, and more.

Hear Together: Third Annual Bill Howard Golf for Alzheimer’s Tournament

Golf for Alzheimer’s Inc. is a nonprofit in Charlottesville focused on funding Alzheimer’s research in the Commonwealth.

They are hosting their Third Annual Bill Howard Golf for Alzheimer’s tournament at the Club at Glenmore on Monday, May 5. The tournament is an afternoon shotgun start followed by a happy hour and prizes in the evening.

Proceeds provide seed funding for local projects at the University of Virginia. They’re working on detecting, delaying, and preventing the onset of Alzheimer’s Disease.

Hear Together: WOW Art On 1st Gallery Contest

Wall Opportunities and Wishes, otherwise known as WOW is a nonprofit helping meet the needs of Virginians with disabilities that cannot be met in any other way. 

WOW is partnering with Art on 1st Gallery in Roanoke for a Calendar Contest fundraiser! 

Art for All:  A Year of Inspiration will feature artwork that celebrates inclusion, empowerment, and community. All mediums are welcome and submissions are due by May 31st.

Hear Together: Literacy Volunteers of Charlottesville/Albemarle Wordplay Trivia

Literacy Volunteers of Charlottesville/Albemarle is a nonprofit that promotes adult literacy in the Greater Charlottesville area through confidential one-to-one English and Citizenship tutoring.

They are recruiting compassionate and enthusiastic volunteers to tutor adults in English speaking, reading, and writing. Additionally, many of their students are in need of support in preparing for their U.S. Citizenship interviews.

They are hosting Wordplay, their annual team-trivia fundraiser, at the Paramount Theater on Thursday, April 24, at 7 pm. Audience members are invited to play along while teams compete. Additionally, raffle prizes will be awarded during the event.

Hear Together: Vector Space 6th Annual Maker Faire

Vector Space is a nonprofit makerspace and community workshop located in Midtown Lynchburg with a mission to build an open and collaborative community fostering innovation, creativity, and the pursuit of science-based knowledge.

Vector Space is hosting it’s 6th annual Maker Faire, on the campus of Randolph College on Sunday, March, 30th. This fair attracts 4,000 attendees each year coming to play, learn and interact with crafters, scientists, makers and hobbyists of all kinds. Maker Faire is a family friendly event and is open to the public.

Hear Together: Rush Homes Parade of Play Houses

Rush Homes is a nonprofit in Lynchburg that creates affordable, accessible housing for families with disabilities and low incomes.

We’re hosting our 2nd Annual Parade of Play Houses on Saturday, April 26th. We invite you to bring your entire family out to the Lynchburg City Stadium for an afternoon of activities. This all ages event will feature four donated play houses, bouncy houses, story time, face painting, food trucks, and more.

Proceeds from this fundraiser go toward making sure that we all have access to the kinds of housing that meet our needs.

Hear Together: Anicira Veterinary Center

Anicira Veterinary Center in Harrisonburg is a nonprofit veterinary hospital dedicated to making veterinary care accessible for all pets. Their services are open to everyone, and by choosing Anicira, you’re helping pets in need.

Last year, Anicira helped 6,500 pets access veterinary care that their families otherwise could not afford, ensuring thousands of pets could stay healthy and with the people who love them.

Hear Together: LEAP Food Access Programs

Local Environmental Agriculture Project (LEAP) is a Roanoke-based nonprofit striving to nurture equitable food and farming systems that prioritize health and abundance. Founded in 2009, LEAP programs include two farmers markets, a mobile market, a farm share, a food hub, a retail store, a processing kitchen, three community gardens, and robust food access programs.

All are invited to visit Grandin Village Farmers Market on Saturdays, West End Farmers Market on Tuesdays, the LEAP Mobile Market during its scheduled weekday stops, and the LEAPCommunity Store on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. More information is online at leapforlocalfood.org.
