Hear Together: The Strength Initiative’s Movement and Mocktails

The Strength Initiative is a physician-founded nonprofit that aims to empower all women to lift weights. 

They are hosting their “Movement and Mocktails” event on Thursday, June 12th at 6pm on their rooftop in downtown Belmont. 

They welcome you to join them for this outdoor community event that includes guided strength training for adults of all ages and experience levels, followed by a health conscious social hour. 

Proceeds support our The Strength Initiative’s mission to make science-backed strength training accessible to all women. 

Hear Together: Charlottesville Ballet Summer Camps

As a nonprofit, Charlottesville Ballet is committed to making dance accessible to all.

Through the Keith Lee Dance Fund, they focus on inclusion, diversity, equity, and access, including scholarship opportunities for boys in dance, dancers with disabilities, diversity in dance, and financial aid for students of all backgrounds.

The Keith Lee Dance Fund was established in 2023 in honor of Keith Lee, Charlottesville Ballet’s Resident Choreographer & Director of Diversity & Inclusion, in collaboration with their IDEA Committee. 

This summer, Charlottesville Ballet is offering in-person camps for young dancers, running from June 9th to August 21st. Campers can choose from Fairytale Ballet, Superhero Dance, Hawaiian Hip Hop Dance Mix, Pre-Ballet, and more. 

Hear Together: VIA Centers for Neurodevelopment

VIA Centers for Neurodevelopment is a nonprofit that aims to empower people to embrace the strengths and meet the challenges related to autism and neurodevelopmental disabilities by providing compassionate, evidence-based services throughout their lives. They have centers in Charlottesville, Lexington, Lynchburg, and Roanoke.

At VIA, they strive to cultivate an increased awareness and acceptance of people with autism while enriching the social fabric throughout our communities. VIA Centers for Neurodevelopment employs state-of-the-art, scientific approaches to develop services intended to create meaningful change in the lives of the people they serve.

Julien Baker + Torres on World Cafe

Julien Baker & Torres both grew up in the South, where country music was always around – but it took them teaming up with each other – to start writing their own. On the next World Cafe, they talk about making their new country album Send a Prayer My Way and about how their appreciation of the genre has changed over the years.
