Hear Together: The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Peninsula

The American Cancer Society is a nonprofit dedicated to ending cancer as we know it for everyone.

They are hosting Relay For Life of Peninsula on Saturday, May 17th at Tabb High School in Yorktown from 5-9 PM.

This event brings the community together to honor cancer survivors, remember loved ones, and recognize their caretakers. They will have a lap around the track honoring first responders and medical professionals. Plus, since it is the 40th anniversary of the first Relay For Life, we will be dressed like it’s 1985! There will be local food trucks, music by The Detonators, and a luminaria ceremony.

Proceeds go towards cancer research, advocacy efforts, and patient support services including rides to appointments and housing at treatment centers.

Hear Together: University of Virginia’s Office for Sustainability Earth Month

University of Virginia’s Office for Sustainability is wishing you a happy April and happy Earth Month!

Every year, organizations at the University of Virginia and across the Charlottesville-area community host over 50 events, including talks and eco-friendly volunteer opportunities.

Outdoor enthusiasts can participate in tree plantings or river cleanups. College students can check out SWAP’s clothing swap or Eco-Fair on Earth Day, April 22nd at Peabody Lawn at UVA. And families can even take a  day trip to a local farm or vineyard.

Whatever suits your style, they welcome you to celebrate our shared planet by joining any of the Earth Month celebrations at UVA and in the Charlottesville area through April 30th.
