Hear Together: The Center at Belvedere Active Aging Fair

The Center at Belvedere’s nonprofit community center in Charlottesville creates healthy aging opportunities for adults 50 and up. They invite you to kick off Active Aging Week this fall with an Active Aging Fair on Saturday, September 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Over forty-five local businesses and organizations are coming together to share the services and information that help us age to the best of our potential.

Hear Together: Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center – Massey On The River

The VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center is one of just two NCI Comprehensive cancer centers in Virginia. Massey is UNrelenting in the national fight against cancer – and this year, celebrates fifty years. 

To join in the celebration, the Massey Alliance is hosting their 15th annual Massey on the River event, on Friday, September 20th, at the Science Museum of Virginia’s Thalhimer Pavilion, from 6 to 10 pm. 

There will be local food and drink, an auction, and live music from Richmond’s yacht rock band, Three Sheets to the Wind. They invite you to enjoy an evening in the river city, while raising money for cancer research. 

Hear Together: Virginia Public Access Project Election Coverage

The Virginia Public Access Project, also known as VPAP is a nonprofit organization dedicated to remaining fiercely non-partisan. Their mission is to simplify complex political information about Virginia’s local politics and government so our fellow citizens can better understand and make informed decisions that align with their values.

With the November election approaching, they invite you to visit vpap.org to learn more about the candidates running for U.S. House and Senate, including their campaign finances and the districts they aim to represent. You can also enter your address to see who’s on your ballot, where to vote, and more.

On election night, tune in for live, up-to-the-minute results, and return afterward for VPAP’s post-election analysis featuring informative visuals and results for your ballot.

Hear Together: DisruptHR/Charlottesville Computers4Kids

Since 2018, DisruptHR/Charlottesville’s annual event has raised funds for Computers4Kids to strengthen their STEM-based mentoring program and prepare the Charlottesville area youth for brighter futures.

They invite you to join them Tuesday, October 1st from 5-8 p.m. at Live Arts on Charlottesville’s Downtown Mall.

All event proceeds go to Computers4Kids.

Sense of Place, Japan: Atarashii Gakko! on World Cafe

ATARASHII GAKKO! are a four-woman J-pop band that have given jaw-dropping performances this year at festivals including Coachella and Primavera. On the next World Cafe, they play songs from their latest album AG Calling! and talk about playing with people’s expectations of what a J-pop group can do.
