Hear Together: Special Olympics Volunteers

Every day, Special Olympics is working to build an inclusive world – a world that celebrates ALL abilities. But they can’t do it without volunteers.

Across Virginia, they are in need of sports officials, event organizers, fundraisers, fans – and especially coaches. Was there a mentor, teacher or coach who made a difference in your life? Someone who gave you the courage and determination to do your best? You can be that person for a Special Olympics athlete.

This is a casual evening of music and food, with an opportunity to support the mission of First Step and participate in both a live and silent auction.

Encore: Elliott Smith on World Cafe

In 1999, influential singer-songwriter Elliott Smith stopped by World Cafe’s studio to perform a special mini-concert. His set included an early (and still untitled) rendition of “Happiness,” which would later appear on his 2000 album, Figure 8. On the next World Cafe, we’ll revisit Smith’s performance to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of Heaven Adores You, a documentary about his life and music.
