Gregory Alan Isakov’s latest album Appaloosa Bones, his first in five years, began as a chance for a sonic reset. Isakov, inspired by travels in West Texas and Big Bend National Park, wanted to strip down his sound, something that had become increasingly layered and textured, culminating in 2018’s Evening Machines, but the songs had other ideas. Gregory explains what the record became, and we’ll hear live performances on the next World Cafe.
